Rs 4,415-Crore Highway Project Approved To Improve Connectivity In Madhya Pradesh

Centre clears Rs 4,415-crore highway project to boost Madhya Pradesh connectivity and jobs.

The Centre on Wednesday approved a ₹4,415.60-crore highway development project aimed at improving connectivity and boosting economic activity in Madhya Pradesh, while Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held detailed discussions with Chief Minister Mohan Yadav in New Delhi on expanding investment and employment opportunities in the state.

During the meeting, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said that Madhya Pradesh is steadily emerging as a leading investment destination in the country, supported by industry-friendly policies, improved infrastructure, and a growing investment-conducive environment. He noted that discussions with Chief Minister Mohan Yadav focused on strengthening industrial development, attracting fresh investments, and creating large-scale job opportunities across sectors in the state.

On the infrastructure front, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the upgradation and widening of key stretches of National Highway-347B in Madhya Pradesh under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM). The project covers a total length of 233.653 km and includes the development of major road segments such as the Hiwarkhedi–Roshni–Ashapur–Rudhy stretch and the Deshgaon–Julwania corridor.

The project involves upgrading a 125.01-km section to a two-lane road with paved shoulders and widening a 108.643-km stretch from two lanes to four lanes. It will also include a 16.20-km greenfield bypass around Khargone, along with multiple bypasses to ease congestion and improve road geometry across key locations. The corridor will link major national highways, including NH-47, NH-52, NH-753, and NH-347BG, along with state highways and district road networks.

Officials said the upgraded highway will significantly improve travel efficiency, reduce journey times, and enhance road safety while lowering fuel consumption and logistics costs. The corridor is expected to strengthen connectivity to industrial, social, and logistics hubs, including textile clusters, mega food parks, industrial parks, and super thermal power plants. It will also improve access to Indore and Nagpur airports, key railway stations, and the Multi-Modal Logistics Park in Indore.

The Centre has estimated that the construction phase of the project will generate around 19.50 lakh person-days of direct employment, along with additional indirect job opportunities. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav welcomed the approval, stating that the project reflects the accelerated pace of development under the “double-engine government” model and will significantly benefit tribal-majority districts such as Betul, Khandwa, Khargone, and Barwani. He also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, calling it a transformative step for Madhya Pradesh’s infrastructure and economic growth.
