Retired Ajinkya Rahane Eligible For ₹70,000 Monthly BCCI Pension
The former India batter qualifies for BCCI's top pension slab after representing India in 85 Test matches.
Former India batter Ajinkya Rahane is set to receive a fixed monthly pension of ₹70,000 from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) following his retirement from international cricket. Rahane, who announced his retirement on July 30, qualifies for the board's highest pension bracket after representing India in 85 Test matches, making him eligible under the revised pension scheme introduced by the BCCI in 2022.
Under the updated policy, retired cricketers who have played 75 or more Test matches receive a monthly pension of ₹70,000. Before the revision, players in the top category were entitled to ₹50,000 per month. The enhanced pension was approved during Sourav Ganguly's tenure as BCCI president as part of the board's efforts to improve the financial security of former players and match officials after the end of their playing careers.
Announcing the revised scheme in 2022, Ganguly had said it was the BCCI's responsibility to ensure the financial well-being of retired cricketers. He also acknowledged the contribution of former umpires, stating that they had been "unsung heroes" of Indian cricket and deserved greater recognition through improved pension benefits. The revised policy significantly increased monthly pensions across multiple eligibility categories for retired players and officials.

Rahane retires as one of India's most accomplished overseas batters and a respected leader. He represented the country in 85 Tests, 90 One-Day Internationals and 20 T20 Internationals, earning widespread acclaim for his calm leadership during India's historic 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy triumph in Australia, where he captained the side in Virat Kohli's absence. Throughout his career, Rahane established himself as a dependable middle-order batter, particularly in challenging overseas conditions.
While Rahane has not announced his post-retirement plans, he has indicated an interest in mentoring young cricketers in the future. Under BCCI regulations, however, his monthly pension will remain payable only as long as he does not hold an official role with the board. If he accepts a position such as a coach, selector or administrator with the BCCI, the pension will be suspended during the period in which he receives a salary from the board.
