Rajasthan SI 2021 Unsuccessful Candidates File Caveat In Supreme Court Over Recruitment Cancellation

Failed Rajasthan SI 2021 candidates file caveat in Supreme Court over recruitment cancellation.

The ongoing dispute over the Rajasthan Sub-Inspector (SI) Recruitment 2021 has taken a new turn as unsuccessful candidates filed a caveat in the Supreme Court, seeking a chance to be heard if the state government or selected candidates challenge the High Court’s decision to cancel the recruitment. The caveat has been filed on behalf of petitioners Kailash Chandra Sharma and Pramod Kumar, representing unsuccessful candidates in the recruitment process.

The petitioners requested that if the state government or any selected candidate files a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court against the High Court’s order, they should also be heard, and no interim or final order should be passed without considering their submissions. So far, the state government has not filed any petition, as it continues to review the decision of the Rajasthan High Court’s division bench. Meanwhile, selected trainee SIs are reportedly planning to approach the Supreme Court against the cancellation.

On April 4, 2026, the division bench of the Rajasthan High Court upheld the cancellation of the SI Recruitment 2021. This followed an earlier order by a single bench on August 28, 2025, which first annulled the recruitment. While the division bench confirmed the cancellation, it set aside the suo motu cognisance initiated by the single bench against Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) members involved in the case.

The recruitment process began with a notification issued on February 3, 2021, for 859 SI posts. Around 7.97 lakh candidates applied, of which 3.80 lakh appeared for the written examination held from September 13 to 15, 2021. Out of these, 20,359 candidates qualified for the physical test, and 3,291 were selected for the interview. The final result was declared on June 1, 2023.

The recruitment came under scrutiny following allegations of large-scale irregularities. An investigation was conducted by the Special Operations Group (SOG), and names of RPSC members surfaced in the case, making it a politically sensitive issue. RPSC members Ramuram Raika and Babulal Katara were arrested, and the paper leak controversy dominated discussions during the 2023 Assembly elections.

The legal battle intensified when a petition seeking cancellation of the recruitment was filed on August 13, 2024. After extensive hearings, the single bench cancelled the recruitment in August 2025. Selected candidates challenged this before the division bench, which granted an interim stay in September 2025. Subsequently, the Supreme Court restored the single bench’s decision on September 24, 2025, directing the division bench to deliver its final verdict within three months and staying the field postings of selected candidates.
