PM Modi to Visit Assam on Feb 14 for Bridge Inauguration and Major Rally

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Guwahati on February 14, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Sunday. The visit will include a series of high-profile engagements focused on infrastructure development, sustainable urban transport, and political outreach.

During the trip, PM Modi will inaugurate the much-awaited Guwahati–North Guwahati bridge, a crucial infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity across the Brahmaputra River. The bridge is expected to reduce travel time, ease traffic congestion, and enhance economic activity in the region.

As part of India’s clean mobility initiative, the Prime Minister will also hand over 100 electric buses to the Assam government. This induction is aimed at strengthening public transport in Guwahati and its surrounding areas while supporting the state’s green transition goals and reducing urban carbon emissions.

PM Modi is slated to address a large election-focused rally at Khanapara, which is expected to witness participation from booth-level workers, party functionaries, and leaders across Assam. The rally will highlight the Bharatiya Janata Party’s organisational preparedness ahead of upcoming elections.

The visit continues PM Modi’s consistent engagement with Assam and the Northeast, following earlier initiatives such as the elevated corridor project in Kaziranga National Park, aimed at wildlife conservation, and the inauguration of train services linking Assam with northern India.

Chief Minister Sarma noted that the upcoming visit will further underscore the Centre’s commitment to Assam’s development, covering key sectors such as flood management, energy, tourism, urban development, and support for youth, farmers, and entrepreneurs.
