PM Modi Ensures Smooth Passage For NEET Aspirants By Delaying Departure From Airport

PM delays departure to avoid NEET aspirant inconvenience.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday reportedly delayed his departure from Delhi airport to avoid causing inconvenience to students appearing for the NEET examination, which was scheduled to begin at 2 pm. The decision was taken to ensure smooth traffic movement and uninterrupted access for aspirants travelling to examination centres across the capital.

According to reports, the Prime Minister arrived at Delhi airport at around 1:15 pm after returning from a two-day visit to Odisha and West Bengal. Instead of proceeding directly to his residence, he chose to remain at the airport during the peak movement window ahead of the examination, when traffic congestion is typically higher due to exam-related travel.

The NEET examination, one of the country’s largest competitive medical entrance tests, sees lakhs of students appearing across multiple centres nationwide. Authorities generally enforce strict traffic management measures during such examinations to ensure that candidates reach their venues on time. In this context, the Prime Minister’s decision was aimed at preventing any additional disruption during the critical hour before the exam began.

Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar praised the move, describing it as an example of leadership prioritising public convenience over protocol. In a statement, he said that while power is often associated with privilege, the Prime Minister’s actions reflected a sense of responsibility towards citizens. He noted that the decision to wait at the airport helped ensure smoother movement for students heading to their examination centres.

The Prime Minister’s return to Delhi came after completing a two-day official tour of Odisha and West Bengal, during which he participated in several public programmes, including an International Yoga Day event in Kolkata earlier in the day. The visit included engagements focused on development initiatives and public outreach activities across both states.

While official protocol details of the delay were not elaborated upon, the incident has drawn public attention given the scale and significance of the NEET examination. The event is conducted annually under strict logistical arrangements, with authorities deploying extensive coordination to manage transport, security and timing for candidates across the country.

The development highlights the sensitivity surrounding large-scale national examinations in India, where even minor disruptions in urban traffic can have a significant impact on students. The Prime Minister’s decision, as reported, was intended to align with these considerations and ensure that aspirants were not adversely affected during a crucial academic milestone.
