PM Modi Congratulates Keiko Fujimori On Peru Presidential Election Victory
India signals stronger cooperation after Peru election outcome.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday congratulated Keiko Fujimori following her victory in Peru’s presidential election, reaffirming India’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with the South American nation. The Prime Minister expressed his intention to work closely with the incoming leadership to deepen cooperation across a wide range of sectors. The message was shared through an official post on social media platform X.
In his post, PM Modi extended “heartiest congratulations” to Fujimori on her electoral win and emphasized the importance India places on its longstanding friendship with Peru. He reiterated that New Delhi remains committed to expanding and strengthening the bilateral partnership in areas of mutual interest. The statement reflected India’s continued diplomatic engagement with Latin America.
According to Peru’s electoral authorities, Keiko Fujimori of the Popular Force party was officially declared the winner of the June 7 presidential election for the 2026–2031 term. The announcement was made by Roberto Burneo, president of Peru’s National Jury of Elections, during a formal proclamation ceremony held on Friday. The election results were confirmed after the completion of the official counting process.

The National Office of Electoral Processes reported that Fujimori secured more than 50 per cent of the votes. She is scheduled to assume office on July 28. Her incoming administration will include Luis Galarreta as first vice president and Miguel Torres as second vice president, marking the start of a new political term in Peru.
India and Peru currently maintain cordial diplomatic relations and have steadily expanded cooperation in sectors such as trade, investment, mining, pharmaceuticals, information technology, agriculture, and cultural exchange. Over recent years, India has also intensified its outreach to Latin American countries as part of its broader foreign policy engagement with the region.
PM Modi’s congratulatory message underscores India’s continued focus on strengthening global partnerships and enhancing cooperation with Peru for mutual development. The statement reflects New Delhi’s intent to further deepen ties with the incoming Peruvian leadership, reinforcing long-standing diplomatic and economic engagement between the two countries.
