PM Andy Burnham Retains Kanishka Narayan as AI Minister

India-born British Member of Parliament Kanishka Narayan has retained his position as the United Kingdom's Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence in the new Cabinet formed by Prime Minister Andy Burnham following the resignation of Sir Keir Starmer. Narayan's appointment makes him the UK's first dedicated minister responsible for artificial intelligence, reflecting the government's continued emphasis on advancing AI policy and innovation.

Born in Bihar, India, Narayan moved to Cardiff, Wales, during his childhood and later entered British politics. He currently represents the Vale of Glamorgan in the UK Parliament and made history by becoming Wales' first ethnic minority Member of Parliament. According to his public profile, he holds a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Oxford and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Stanford University.

Prime Minister Burnham has retained several ministers from the previous administration while reshuffling key portfolios to form his new government. Among the prominent appointments are John Healey as Chancellor, Ed Miliband as Foreign Secretary, Shabana Mahmood as Home Secretary, Wes Streeting as Defence Secretary, Yvette Cooper as Health Secretary and Lucy Powell as Education Secretary. Narayan continues in his AI portfolio as part of the government's technology and innovation agenda.
