Pakistan’s Diplomatic Efforts Near Critical Stage as US Escalates Pressure on Iran

Iran hails Pakistan’s efforts as Trump issues military deadline.

Iran has acknowledged Pakistan’s “positive and productive” diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions in West Asia, describing the initiative as reaching a “critical, sensitive stage.” The statement was made by Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, highlighting Islamabad’s growing role in mediating the escalating conflict involving Tehran and Washington.

In a post on X, Moghadam said, “Pakistan's positive and productive endeavours in Good Will and Good Office to stop the war is approaching a critical, sensitive stage,” underscoring the urgency of the ongoing diplomatic engagement. Tehran’s comments signal appreciation for Pakistan’s mediation, even as rhetoric from Washington continues to intensify.

U.S. President Donald Trump has sharply escalated warnings against Iran, issuing what he described as a final deadline for Tehran. In multiple posts on Truth Social, Trump threatened military action, stating, “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran… Open the F——-in' Strait, you crazy bastards, or you'll be living in Hell,” later specifying 8 p.m. as the cutoff.

Trump reiterated the threat a day later, warning that “the entire country can be taken out in one night, and that night might be tomorrow night,” adding that every bridge in Iran could be targeted by midnight under a U.S. military plan. These comments have heightened concerns of potential military escalation and placed additional pressure on diplomatic efforts.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi clarified Tehran’s position, pushing back against what he termed mischaracterisations by U.S. media. “We are deeply grateful to Pakistan for its efforts and have never refused to go to Islamabad. What we care about are the terms of a conclusive and lasting END to the illegal war that is imposed on us,” he wrote on X.

The situation underscores a narrowing window for de-escalation, with Pakistan’s backchannel diplomacy emerging as a critical effort to prevent a military confrontation. Analysts say the convergence of intensifying U.S. threats and ongoing regional negotiations highlights the high stakes for both regional stability and global security in the coming days.
