Pakistan Becomes Most Terror-Hit Nation; India Sees 43% Decline In Attacks

Pakistan tops terror index while India sees 43% drop in attacks.

Pakistan has emerged as the world’s most terror-affected country, while India has recorded a significant 43 percent decline in terror-related incidents, according to the latest global assessment on terrorism trends. The findings reflect a notable divergence in security conditions across South Asia, highlighting both progress and persistent challenges in the region.

The report, released by the Institute for Economics and Peace, ranks Pakistan as the country most impacted by terrorism based on factors such as the number of incidents, fatalities, injuries, and the overall economic impact of attacks. The increase has been linked to a resurgence of militant activity, particularly in regions that have historically faced insurgency and extremist violence.

In contrast, India has seen a marked improvement in its internal security situation, with terror incidents declining by 43 percent over the past year. Security analysts attribute this drop to a combination of enhanced intelligence-sharing mechanisms, coordinated counterterrorism operations, and increased surveillance capabilities deployed by law enforcement agencies.

The report highlights that India’s sustained efforts to curb extremist activities, particularly in previously volatile regions, have contributed to the overall decline. Initiatives focused on community engagement, border management, and the use of technology in tracking potential threats have also played a role in strengthening the country’s security framework. While isolated incidents continue to occur, the broader trend indicates a gradual stabilisation.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s position at the top of the index underscores the complex security challenges it continues to face. Experts point to factors such as political instability, economic strain, and the presence of multiple militant groups operating within its borders. The resurgence of certain extremist organisations has contributed to an increase in both the frequency and intensity of attacks in recent months.

The findings also reflect broader regional dynamics, where shifts in geopolitical alignments and internal developments influence security conditions. Analysts note that instability in neighbouring regions can have spillover effects, complicating efforts to maintain peace and order. In this context, both countries remain critical to the overall security architecture of South Asia.

Despite the positive trend for India, experts caution against complacency, emphasising that the threat of terrorism remains persistent and adaptive. Continued vigilance, along with sustained investment in intelligence and counterterrorism capabilities, will be essential to maintaining the downward trajectory. At the same time, addressing underlying socio-economic and political factors will be crucial for long-term stability across the region.
