A 53-year-old man died and 11 others fell ill after a New Year’s party in Hyderabad.
A tragic incident marred New Year celebrations in Hyderabad when one person died and 11 others were hospitalized after falling ill following a private gathering on New Year's Eve, December 31, 2025. The group of 17 people had assembled at the Bhavani Nagar Association Committee Hall in Jagadgiri Gutta, Quthbullapur area, where they consumed alcohol and later ate chicken biryani, fish curry, and roti prepared on-site. Soon after the meal, several participants began feeling unwell, with nine of them losing consciousness and requiring urgent medical attention.
The deceased has been identified as Pandu (53), who succumbed to his condition while undergoing treatment. Nine individuals were rushed to Narayana Malla Reddy Hospital, while two others are receiving care at Ram Dev Hospital. Police officials from the Balanagar zone, including Assistant Commissioner of Police Naresh Reddy and Jeedimetla Circle Inspector Gaddam Mallesh, visited the hospitals to assess the situation and coordinate with medical teams. The condition of the hospitalized patients is reported as stable.
Authorities have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation, exploring both possible food poisoning from the meal and the consumption of spurious or adulterated liquor. Leftover food samples have been seized and sent to a forensic laboratory for analysis, while statements from the affected individuals and witnesses are being recorded. ACP Naresh Reddy confirmed that the probe is being conducted from both angles, and the exact cause will be determined once the lab reports are available.
