Ola Uber Rapido Drivers Set for Nationwide Strike on February 7
Thousands of app-based drivers to pause services nationwide for six hours in protest over earnings and working conditions.
Commuters across major Indian cities are likely to face disruptions on Saturday, February 7, as drivers associated with ride-hailing platforms including Ola, Uber, Rapido, and Porter plan a coordinated nationwide log-off. The protest, dubbed the ‘All India Breakdown’, will see thousands of drivers simultaneously pause their services for at least six hours, affecting cabs, auto-rickshaws, and bike taxis, particularly in urban centres.
The strike has been announced by the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU), with support from multiple national labour organisations. According to union leaders, the protest is intended to send a clear message to both ride-hailing platforms and policymakers regarding systemic issues affecting driver incomes, job security, and working conditions.
The TGPWU has highlighted concerns over arbitrary fare practices, lack of minimum base fare notifications, and provisions allowing platforms to offer steep discounts, all of which they say have eroded driver earnings. Drivers claim that despite the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines, 2025, their incomes continue to shrink, and they are forced to work unsustainable hours.

The union has outlined four primary demands: formal notification of minimum base fares, stricter enforcement against private vehicles being used commercially without conversion, removal of clauses allowing fares to be discounted up to 50% below the base rate, and legally binding safeguards on income and working conditions. Organisers emphasised that these measures are necessary to make gig work sustainable in India’s rapidly growing ride-hailing ecosystem.
While the strike is planned for six hours, the scale of disruption will vary across cities depending on driver participation. Passengers relying on app-based transport services are advised to plan alternative travel arrangements, particularly during peak morning and evening hours. Authorities have also urged commuters to stay updated with local advisories as the nationwide action unfolds.
