Odisha Government Deports 49 Bangladeshi Infiltrators Since BJP Took Office
Chief Minister Majhi confirms repatriation of 49 Bangladeshi nationals amid continued efforts to identify illegal immigrants.
Since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) assumed power in Odisha in June 2024, the state government has identified 51 Bangladeshi infiltrators across various districts, with 49 of them deported to Bangladesh, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the state assembly on Monday. The move indicates the administration’s focus on tackling illegal immigration within the state.
In response to a question raised by Biju Janata Dal (BJD) legislator Goutam Buddha Das, the Chief Minister provided details on the ongoing efforts to identify and remove unauthorized migrants. Of the total infiltrators detected, two individuals were charged under legal provisions for using fake documents to obtain Indian passports. These two, located in Ganjam and Kandhamal districts, are currently in judicial custody.
The highest number of infiltrators—24—were found in Khurda district’s Urban Police District (UPD), followed by 15 in UPD-Cuttack. The government also reported six cases in Ganjam, three in Kandhamal, and one in Koraput district. Each deportation was carried out following due legal procedures, reflecting the administration’s commitment to a lawful approach.
