NSA Ajit Doval Meets Saudi Leadership To Advance India’s Gulf Cooperation Strategy
Doval meets Saudi leadership to strengthen India’s Gulf strategy.
India has stepped up its diplomatic engagement in the Gulf region as National Security Adviser Ajit Doval held high-level talks with Saudi leadership, underscoring New Delhi’s focus on strengthening strategic partnerships in West Asia amid shifting regional dynamics.
The discussions in Saudi Arabia are understood to have covered a wide range of issues, including regional security, counter-terror cooperation, energy stability, and investment ties. The engagement reflects India’s continuing effort to deepen coordination with key Gulf partners at a time of heightened geopolitical uncertainty in the broader West Asian region.
Saudi Arabia remains one of India’s most important strategic and economic partners in the Gulf, particularly in areas such as crude oil supply, trade, remittances, and infrastructure investment. Both sides have in recent years expanded cooperation beyond traditional energy ties into defence dialogue, cybersecurity, and regional stability frameworks.

Officials familiar with the visit indicated that Doval’s engagement is part of India’s broader national security and foreign policy approach, which prioritises stable maritime routes, especially given concerns over critical shipping corridors like the Strait of Hormuz. Ensuring uninterrupted energy flows and safeguarding sea lanes has become an increasing focus of India’s external security planning.
The talks also come against the backdrop of ongoing instability in parts of West Asia, where conflicts and tensions have raised concerns about energy security and regional spillover risks. India has consistently advocated for dialogue and diplomatic resolution of disputes, while maintaining strong bilateral relations with multiple stakeholders in the region.
Analysts note that India’s growing diplomatic outreach to Gulf countries reflects its multi-aligned foreign policy strategy, balancing energy dependence with expanding economic and strategic interests. The engagement with Saudi leadership is seen as part of a sustained effort to institutionalise high-level communication channels.
Further follow-up discussions are expected as both sides continue to explore avenues for deeper cooperation in security, energy transition, and investment partnerships, reinforcing the long-standing strategic importance of the India–Gulf relationship.
