Noida Techie Death: Two Additional Builders Arrested, Offices Sealed

Two more builders arrested and real estate offices sealed in Noida techie drowning case.

The investigation into the drowning death of 27-year-old tech professional Yuvraj Mehta gathered momentum on Thursday with the arrest of two more builders and the sealing of offices linked to the case. Police action comes amid allegations of gross negligence at a construction site in Noida Sector 150, where Mehta’s car plunged into a water-filled pit.

Ravi Bansal and Sachin Karanwal, office bearers of Lotus Greens Pvt Ltd and shareholders in the concerned plot, were arrested from Greater Noida, said Gautam Budh Nagar additional commissioner of police Rajeev Narayan. An FIR was registered against the developers on Sunday, citing absence of barricades, reflectors, and mandatory safety arrangements at the site.

Police also sealed the Noida offices of Lotus Greens Pvt Ltd and MZ Wiztown Planners to prevent possible tampering or removal of documents. Earlier, MZ Wiztown promoter Abhay Kumar was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the case. Late Wednesday, a second FIR was filed against five builders, invoking provisions related to environmental protection and water pollution.

Reacting to the developments, Shrey Sinha, counsel for Abhay Kumar, said Wiztown and its staff were cooperating fully with the investigation. He confirmed that electronic evidence had been seized by the Noida police crime branch but questioned the exclusion of Noida Authority officials from the FIR, despite the National Green Tribunal taking suo motu cognisance and making the authority a party to the case.

Sinha also denied claims that Wiztown’s offices were sealed, stating that the firm had voluntarily shut them. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Lotus Greens declined to comment on the matter. The conflicting claims are expected to be examined as part of the ongoing probe.

A special investigation team (SIT) constituted to investigate the incident visited the accident site on Thursday. Officials said the SIT is probing why rescue operations were delayed by nearly two hours after Mehta’s vehicle fell into the waterlogged pit, a delay that may have proved fatal.

Investigators are also seeking detailed information on when the Noida Authority was informed about the incident, who conveyed the information, the response timeline, and which officials reached the site. The findings of the SIT are expected to play a crucial role in determining accountability in the case.
