Mumbai Crime Branch Seizes 3.88 Kg Charas, One Arrested Under NDPS Act
Mumbai police arrest suspect, seize charas near LTT station.
The Mumbai Police Crime Branch’s Anti-Narcotics Cell has arrested a suspected drug supplier near Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and seized 3.886 kilograms of charas valued at approximately ₹3.89 crore in the international market, officials said on Friday. The operation is part of an ongoing crackdown on narcotics trafficking networks operating in and around the city.
According to the police, the accused was taken into custody under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and further investigation is underway to determine the source of the contraband and the intended distribution network. Officials said they are examining possible links to larger supply chains and interstate drug trafficking routes.
The Crime Branch has stated that efforts are focused on tracing both the origin and destination of the seized narcotics. Investigators are currently analysing communication records, financial transactions, and travel patterns of the accused to identify potential accomplices and broader criminal networks involved in the illegal trade.

In a parallel development, the Narcotics Control Bureau announced the conviction of five individuals in a separate synthetic drug trafficking case in Mumbai earlier this week. The agency also attached assets worth over ₹6.5 crore linked to drug-related proceeds, marking a significant financial blow to the illicit network involved.
The case involved trafficking of synthetic drugs such as mephedrone and methamphetamine, along with precursor chemicals used in their manufacture. Authorities also uncovered evidence of money laundering and illegal arms possession during the investigation. Sentences ranging from one to five years of imprisonment were awarded to the convicted individuals, along with monetary fines.
Officials noted that the latest seizure adds to a series of major anti-narcotics operations in Mumbai in recent months, including a large-scale cocaine bust earlier this year. Law enforcement agencies said intensified coordination between state police and central enforcement bodies is aimed at dismantling both local supply chains and international drug trafficking syndicates operating through the financial capital.
