PM Modi Accuses Congress of Neglecting Northeast, Unveils ₹5,100 Crore Projects in Arunachal
PM Modi says Congress abandoned tough development and launches power, road, and airport projects.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing a rally at Indira Gandhi Park in Itanagar on Monday, accused the Congress party of abandoning challenging development projects in the Northeast, particularly in Arunachal Pradesh, causing significant setbacks to the region.
Speaking after unveiling development initiatives worth over Rs 5,100 crore, Modi emphasised his government’s commitment to prioritising the Northeast, claiming to have visited the region over 70 times since 2014. He contrasted this with Congress’s alleged neglect, asserting that their tendency to avoid difficult tasks left hilly and forested areas underdeveloped.
Modi announced a Rs 145.37 crore convention centre in Tawang under the PM-DevINE scheme, designed to host over 1,500 people and promote tourism and cultural activities. He outlined further infrastructure projects worth Rs 1,290 crore, spanning connectivity, healthcare, and fire safety. Modi stressed that his government’s “nation first” approach prioritises citizens over electoral gains, unlike Congress, which he claimed overlooked Arunachal due to its mere two Lok Sabha seats. He also noted that over 450 border villages now have roads, electricity, and internet under the Vibrant Village Programme, transforming them into tourism hubs.

The Prime Minister tied his visit to the rollout of GST reforms, effective Monday, calling it a “double bonanza” for citizens during the festive season starting with Navratri. He claimed the reforms would reduce household expenses, particularly benefiting women, while accusing Congress of imposing heavy taxes and fostering corruption. Modi reiterated his government’s focus on reducing taxes and enhancing connectivity, asserting that the Northeast, once distant, is now at the forefront of India’s development agenda.
