MEA Issues Fake News Alert On Alleged India-UAE Evacuation Plan

MEA debunks evacuation plan rumours and warns against deepfake videos spreading misinformation.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has strongly denied reports claiming that India and the United Arab Emirates were preparing a large-scale evacuation plan for Indian nationals through Fujairah port amid rising tensions in West Asia. The clarification came after social media posts and online reports alleged that Indian authorities were considering emergency naval arrangements to relocate lakhs of Indian workers from the UAE in case regional hostilities disrupted air travel. The MEA described the claims as false and misleading, while also warning the public against the spread of AI-generated misinformation and deepfake content.

According to the viral reports, India and the UAE were allegedly discussing contingency plans involving Fujairah port to facilitate the evacuation of Indian citizens if escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia affected aviation routes and commercial flights. The claims gained traction online amid growing concerns over regional instability and its possible impact on millions of expatriates living and working across Gulf nations. However, the MEA’s official fact-checking account issued a direct “Fake News Alert", categorically rejecting the reports and clarifying that no such evacuation arrangement was under discussion.

The ministry stated that the reports were fabricated attempts to spread misinformation regarding India’s foreign policy and security preparedness. Officials also cautioned citizens against relying on unverified social media content, especially material generated or manipulated using artificial intelligence tools. The warning comes as governments worldwide increasingly face challenges linked to deepfake videos, altered visuals, and fabricated narratives capable of creating confusion and panic during periods of geopolitical uncertainty or national security concerns.

The clarification from the MEA also follows the circulation of other misleading online content allegedly connected to India’s defence and foreign affairs matters. Authorities indicated that several fabricated posts, including manipulated visuals and false claims involving military developments, have recently surfaced across digital platforms. The ministry stressed the importance of verifying information through official government channels before sharing or reacting to sensitive geopolitical content, particularly during periods of heightened international tension.

India maintains one of the world’s largest overseas populations in the Gulf region, with millions of Indian nationals employed across countries such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and Oman. Due to the strategic importance of the region and the significant number of expatriate workers, speculation surrounding evacuation plans often attracts widespread attention whenever instability emerges in West Asia. In the past, India has successfully conducted large-scale evacuation operations from conflict zones, including missions in Kuwait, Yemen, Ukraine, and Sudan, to safely bring citizens home during emergencies.

The latest fake news alert highlights growing concerns among authorities over the rapid spread of misinformation on social media platforms, particularly content amplified through artificial intelligence technologies. Experts warn that fabricated reports related to diplomacy, defence, or public safety can trigger unnecessary fear and confusion among citizens and overseas communities. The MEA has urged people to remain cautious, avoid forwarding unverified information, and depend only on official statements and credible news sources for updates on sensitive international developments.
