Manipur CM Reviews Internal Security With ITBP Leadership
Manipur leaders discuss security and civic initiatives.
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Wednesday held discussions with Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Inspector General Clay Khongsai on issues related to internal security, law enforcement and civic action programmes in the state. The meeting, held at the Civil Secretariat in Imphal, focused on strengthening coordination between the state government and security agencies amid continuing security challenges.
According to officials, the ITBP Inspector General briefed the Chief Minister about the force’s ongoing initiatives aimed at maintaining public order, improving internal security and implementing civic action programmes to support local communities. The discussions also covered measures to enhance cooperation between security forces and civil authorities.
Following the meeting, Chief Minister Khemchand Singh said the ITBP has played an important role in strengthening public security in Manipur. He appreciated the force’s civic action initiatives, which include welfare, healthcare and community outreach programmes aimed at building trust among residents.

The Chief Minister reiterated that the state government remains committed to maintaining close coordination with all security agencies to ensure peace, stability and public welfare. Several security forces, including the Army, Assam Rifles, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and ITBP, have been deployed in Manipur since ethnic violence broke out on May 3, 2023, to assist the administration in maintaining law and order.
Meanwhile, security forces conducted multiple joint operations across Manipur over the past 24 hours, resulting in the arrest of a suspected militant and six alleged drug peddlers. Officials said a cadre of the banned People's Liberation Army (PLA) was arrested from the Thangmeiband Khuyathong Polem Leikai area in Imphal West district.
The arrested militant was identified as Thokchom Sanju Meitei alias Luwang, 26. Security personnel recovered two hand grenades from his possession. In a separate operation in Thoubal district, six suspected drug peddlers, including three women, were arrested during checking at Lilong Haoreibi Lou Manga area, with authorities recovering heroin, methamphetamine tablets, cash and vehicles.
Police said the arrested individuals and seized items have been handed over to the concerned police stations for further legal action. Investigations are underway to determine possible links between the arrested persons, drug trafficking networks and militant activities in the state.
