Kota NEET Aspirant Death Confirmed As Suicide, Last Note Recovered

NEET aspirant in Kota died by suicide; police recovered note citing exam pressure.

Police in Kota have confirmed that a 20-year-old National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) aspirant died by suicide after falling from the sixth floor of his hostel building, and have recovered a last note from his room, officials said on Monday. According to the Kunhadi police station, the student was found dead two days ago after the incident at a hostel in the coaching hub of Kota. Preliminary investigation based on CCTV footage indicates that he was seen walking on the balcony early Saturday morning before jumping, leading to his death. Authorities said the findings confirm it was a suicide that occurred just a day before the scheduled examination.

The deceased, a native of Almora in Uttarakhand, had been preparing for NEET in Kota for the past two years while staying in a hostel in the Kunhadi area. Hostel staff rushed him to a nearby hospital after the incident, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. His body was later handed over to his family following post-mortem examination.

Police also recovered a handwritten note from his room, in which he reportedly apologised to his parents and expressed regret over not being able to prepare adequately for the competitive examination. Officials said the note is being examined as part of the ongoing investigation. “His last note was also recovered from his room in which he apologised to his parents and stated that he failed to prepare enough to qualify this exam,” said Kunhadi station house officer Devesh Bharadwaj.

The city has witnessed multiple such incidents in recent years, prompting repeated calls for stronger mental health support systems and institutional safeguards for students under academic pressure.

Family members of the student expressed shock over the incident. His father said the young man had been performing well academically and had shown no visible signs of distress. “He was good at his studies. He had no stress,” he said, adding that his son had spoken to him shortly before the incident and assured him that he was focused on his preparations.Authorities have reiterated that the investigation is ongoing, while counselling experts and officials continue to stress the importance of early intervention and emotional support mechanisms for students in high-pressure academic environments.
