Kerala Final Voters List: 2.69 Crore Eligible says CEO; Over 53,000 Dropped Post-SIR
Chief Electoral Officer Rathan U. Kelkar announced the figures on February 20, 2026.
The final electoral roll for the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections, prepared following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists, contains 2.69 crore electors, with 53,229 names excluded after hearings on discrepancies.
Chief Electoral Officer Rathan U. Kelkar announced the figures on February 20, 2026, during a meeting with political party representatives in Thiruvananthapuram. The total stands at 2,69,53,644 voters, comprising 1,38,27,319 women, 1,31,26,048 men, and 277 transgender electors. This represents a reduction of approximately 8.97 lakh voters compared to the electoral roll updated in October 2025, prior to the SIR exercise, which began with around 2.78 crore electors.
The SIR process involved intensive verification, including the distribution of enumeration forms and hearings for voters with discrepancies. Of the 36.88 lakh voters summoned for hearings due to issues in their forms, 53,229 were ultimately excluded—primarily those confirmed as deceased, having acquired overseas citizenship, permanently shifted residence, or identified as duplicate entries. The draft roll published in December 2025 had about 2.54 crore voters, with significant additions and verifications leading to the final count.

The final electoral roll is scheduled for formal publication on February 21, 2026, as per the Election Commission of India's timeline. This revision aimed to ensure accuracy and integrity in the voter database ahead of the Assembly polls, though the process drew scrutiny, including concerns over potential disenfranchisement and procedural transparency raised by political parties and petitioners.
The updated roll reflects efforts to clean the list through systematic checks, with provisions for further claims and corrections possible post-publication under standard electoral procedures. The SIR exercise has been a key preparatory step for the elections, ensuring the voter base aligns with current demographic realities in the state. No immediate reactions from major political parties were detailed following the announcement, but the figures set the stage for the electoral contest.
