Karnataka BJP MLA's Attendance at Rowdy-Sheeter's Birthday Triggers Controversy
Karnataka BJP MLA's attendance at rowdy-sheeter's birthday sparks controversy.
A birthday celebration attended by BJP MLA S.R. Vishwanath and an alleged rowdy-sheeter has triggered a political controversy in Karnataka after photographs and videos from the event went viral on social media. The function was reportedly held in Alur under the Yelahanka Assembly constituency, where the individual known as "King Maker Das" celebrated his birthday in the presence of the legislator and several BJP leaders. The visuals have prompted public criticism and drawn the attention of law enforcement authorities.
Photographs circulating online show Das wearing a large garland and posing with supporters during the celebration. Other visuals reportedly show MLA S.R. Vishwanath participating in the event by cutting a birthday cake and extending greetings to Das. The alleged rowdy-sheeter also shared photographs and videos from the function on his Instagram account, further amplifying the controversy after the content spread widely across social media platforms.
According to reports, Das is listed as a rowdy-sheeter at the Yelahanka Chikkajala Police Station and has faced allegations related to land grabbing in the Yelahanka, Nelamangala and Dasarahalli areas. The allegations against him have made the presence of elected representatives at the event a subject of political debate. Authorities have not indicated that the current controversy is linked to any fresh criminal case against him.

The incident has revived memories of a similar controversy last year, when a police inspector was suspended after reportedly attending Das's birthday celebration. The recurrence of such incidents has raised questions regarding the association of public officials and political leaders with individuals facing criminal allegations, leading to criticism from various quarters.
Following the circulation of the videos and photographs, police have reportedly begun gathering information about the event. Officials are examining the material that surfaced online as part of their preliminary assessment. However, no official statement has been issued regarding any legal action against those who attended the celebration or the organiser of the event.
The episode has fuelled political discussion in Karnataka, with opposition parties and social media users questioning the conduct of elected representatives. As the controversy continues to attract attention, authorities are expected to review the available evidence and determine whether any further action is warranted under the law.
