Kalamassery Lab Raided Over Fake Medical Fitness Certificates Scam
Police arrest two lab partners for issuing fraudulent medical certificates to job candidates.
Police in Kalamassery, Kochi, raided EL-Even Laboratory on Sunday, arresting its two partners, Chandrabose (55) of Perumbavoor and Shibi Jose (51) of Poonithura, for allegedly issuing fake medical fitness certificates. The certificates were reportedly provided to candidates recruited by various companies in India and abroad, bypassing mandatory health examinations, authorities confirmed.
The scam came to light after Dr Ribu Sam Stephen, a former associate professor at Palakkad Medical College, discovered that fraudulent certificates were issued in his name. Following this, a police team led by Thrikkakara Assistant Commissioner of Police Shiju PS launched an investigation. During the raid, authorities recovered fake seals and fabricated medical certificates used to deceive companies relying on the lab for employee health screenings.
EL-Even Laboratory, operational for years, had secured contracts from multiple firms, including international companies, to conduct medical screenings for new recruits from Kerala. The investigation revealed that the lab issued certificates without the presence of a registered doctor, violating standard protocols. Police suspect the lab also used counterfeit seals of other doctors to produce these fraudulent documents, potentially affecting numerous recruitment processes.
