JPSC Row Exposes Jharkhand's Repeated Recruitment Failures

Hundreds of students have been protesting in Ranchi since July 25, demanding action over alleged irregularities in the recently conducted Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) examination. The demonstrations have grown steadily over the past week, with aspirants from across the state gathering in the capital to seek a transparent investigation into the alleged examination irregularities and repeated recruitment controversies. Protesters say they will continue their agitation until the government addresses their concerns and ensures accountability in the recruitment process.

The protest has become a focal point for student frustration over what they describe as recurring issues in government recruitment examinations. Many candidates travelled long distances to participate in the demonstrations, viewing the movement as a fight for fair employment opportunities. Protesters have raised slogans against the state government, calling for swift action, greater transparency and reforms aimed at restoring confidence in the public recruitment system.

Among those participating is Devashish Kumar, who said students from his district pooled money for several days to travel to Ranchi for a major mobilisation on July 29. According to him, their bus was stopped near Gandhi Maidan in Hazaribagh, forcing them to switch to a train to reach the protest site. He said seeing the large number of students already gathered in Ranchi convinced them that continuing the journey had been the right decision.

The demonstrations have highlighted growing discontent among government job aspirants in Jharkhand, many of whom argue that repeated controversies surrounding recruitment examinations have affected the careers of thousands of candidates. Students say they have invested years preparing for competitive examinations and expect recruitment processes to be conducted fairly, transparently and without irregularities. They have urged the authorities to ensure that deserving candidates are not disadvantaged by alleged lapses in the examination system.

Student organisations have appealed to the state government to initiate an impartial inquiry into the allegations and introduce stronger safeguards to prevent similar incidents in future recruitment drives. Protesters have emphasised that their movement is peaceful and focused on securing justice for candidates rather than pursuing any political agenda. They have also called for timely recruitment and greater institutional accountability in conducting public examinations.

The ongoing agitation has drawn comparisons with other large student-led protests in the country over examination irregularities and recruitment delays. As the demonstrations continue in Ranchi, aspirants remain hopeful that sustained public pressure will prompt meaningful action from the government. With hundreds of students maintaining their presence at the protest site, the movement has emerged as one of the most significant expressions of youth dissatisfaction over recruitment issues in Jharkhand in recent years.
