J&K L-G Honors Soldiers Who Died Battling Kokernag’s Extreme Weather
Two soldiers perish in extreme weather during counter-terror operation.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha paid heartfelt tributes to two brave soldiers who lost their lives during a challenging counter-terror operation in the rugged Kishtwar Range of Kokernag, Anantnag district. The soldiers, Lance Havildar Palash Ghosh and Lance Naik Sujay Ghosh, succumbed to extreme weather conditions while serving the nation with unwavering dedication.
Sinha laid floral wreaths on the coffins of the fallen heroes, honoring their ultimate sacrifice. “I salute the exemplary courage and selfless service of Lance Havildar Palash Ghosh and Lance Naik Sujay Ghosh. Their sacrifice will forever be etched in the nation’s memory. We stand united with their families in this moment of profound grief,” the Lieutenant Governor said, as reported by an official spokesperson.
The soldiers, members of the Army’s elite para unit, went missing earlier this week during a high-stakes combing operation in the Ahlan Gadole area of Kokernag. The mission was launched based on intelligence reports indicating the presence of terrorists in the region. Tragically, the operation was marred by harsh weather, with hypothermia claiming the lives of both soldiers. One body was recovered on Thursday, followed by the second on Friday, officials confirmed.

The loss of these bravehearts underscores the perilous conditions faced by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir, where they confront not only terrorist threats but also the region’s unforgiving terrain and climate. The operation in Kokernag was part of ongoing efforts to curb militancy in the area, which has seen a surge in terrorist activities in recent months. The soldiers’ sacrifice highlights their commitment to protecting the nation, even at the cost of their lives.
The nation mourns the loss of Lance Havildar Palash Ghosh and Lance Naik Sujay Ghosh, whose bravery and dedication will inspire future generations. Their sacrifice serves as a poignant reminder of the risks undertaken by India’s armed forces to ensure peace and security in the region. As tributes pour in, the Chinar Corps and the people of Jammu and Kashmir stand in solidarity with the grieving families, offering condolences and support during this time of immense sorrow.
