Jharkhand Steel Plant Fire Kills Three Workers In Ramgarh, One Injured

Three workers died after a steel plant fire in Ramgarh.

Three employees of a steel factory in Ramgarh district of Jharkhand were killed and another worker was injured after a fire broke out at the plant late Friday night, police said on Saturday. The blaze reportedly originated in the captive power plant of Maa Chinnamastika Ispat in Helal and later spread within the facility. The incident occurred around midnight when a large number of workers were reportedly present at the factory. Ramgarh Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar Lunayat said four employees suffered severe burn injuries in the fire. Three of them later died while undergoing treatment at a hospital.

The fourth injured worker is receiving medical attention. Police and other authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, while efforts are underway to establish how the fire started and whether any safety lapses contributed to the deaths. The deceased workers were identified as Sanjeev, Vinit and Abhishek, Barkakana police station in-charge Uma Shankar Verma said. Their deaths have raised concerns about safety arrangements at the industrial facility, particularly because the fire broke out in the captive power plant, an area where industrial equipment and electrical systems can pose significant risks to workers.

Chief Factory Inspector Manish Sinha confirmed that the fire originated in the captive power plant of Maa Chinnamastika Ispat. He said a two-member team had been dispatched to the factory to conduct a detailed inspection. The team comprises a factory inspector and the deputy chief inspector of the Chotanagpur region. Their investigation is expected to examine the circumstances of the fire, the condition of the equipment and compliance with workplace safety requirements. According to eyewitnesses, a large number of employees were present at the factory when the fire broke out.

The sudden blaze reportedly caused severe injuries to several workers, with four employees sustaining serious burns. Emergency efforts were subsequently undertaken to rescue those affected and take them for medical treatment, although three of the injured workers later succumbed to their injuries. Police said the exact cause of the fire has not yet been established. Authorities are expected to determine whether the blaze was caused by an equipment malfunction, an electrical fault or another factor as part of the ongoing investigation.

The factory inspection will also seek to establish whether required safety measures were in place and functioning properly at the time of the incident. The deaths have brought renewed attention to industrial safety at the steel plant and the risks faced by workers operating around captive power facilities. With the investigation now underway, authorities are expected to establish the sequence of events leading to the fire and determine whether any negligence or safety violations were involved. Further details are likely to emerge after the inspection team submits its findings.
