In an emotional and celebratory gesture, team captain Harmanpreet Kaur presented President Murmu with a World Cup jersey carrying the signatures of all team members. The squad’s victory has been hailed as a landmark moment in Indian sports, marking the nation’s first-ever global title in women’s cricket.
India secured their maiden crown after defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final held in Navi Mumbai on Sunday. The victory has inspired millions and ushered in a new era for women’s cricket in the country. “Members of the Indian Women Cricket Team, winners of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The President congratulated the team and said they have created history and become role models for the younger generation,” read an official post from the President’s handle on X.
