Indian Diaspora’s Epic Run in UK: Viksit Bharat Rally Ignites Cultural Pride

Diaspora rallies across UK blend culture, service, and sustainability for India’s growth vision.

Indian diplomatic missions in the United Kingdom marked Sewa Parv 2025 with a series of dynamic Viksit Bharat Run events, engaging the Indian diaspora and local communities in a celebration of service, creativity, and cultural pride. Organized by the High Commission of India in London and consulates in Manchester, Birmingham, and Scotland, these events embodied India’s vision of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047. High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami led the initiative in Harrow, north-west London, administering the Atmanirbhar Bharat pledge, which commits participants to uphold India’s rich culture, traditions, and heritage while contributing to global progress.

The Harrow event, infused with festive energy from dhol beats and traditional song-and-dance, drew prominent attendees, including Harrow’s Indian-origin Mayor Anjana Patel and local MP Bob Blackman. Doraiswami opened the run, which saw enthusiastic participation from community members embodying resilience and unity. In a symbolic gesture aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam initiative, the High Commissioner planted a cherry tree sapling at his official residence in central London, underscoring India’s commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship as part of its development narrative.

In Manchester, the newly established Consulate General of India (CGI) hosted its inaugural Viksit Bharat Run, led by Consul General Vishakha Yaduvanshi. Organized in collaboration with Overseas Friends of BJP, PolicyGhar, and Indian Community Liverpool, the event celebrated India’s developmental journey while promoting healthy living. Participants took the Atmanirbhar Bharat pledge and joined a tree-planting initiative, reinforcing the message of environmental responsibility. The event’s patriotic fervor highlighted the diaspora’s role in advancing India’s global aspirations while fostering community bonds.

Similar celebrations took place in Birmingham and Scotland, organized with local Indian community groups like the Glasgow Indian Association. In Birmingham, the run culminated at the iconic Golden Boy statue, symbolizing the diaspora’s vibrant contribution to the UK’s cultural landscape. These events, held between September 17 and October 2 as part of the Ministry of Culture’s Sewa Parv, brought together communities, institutions, and individuals in a collective spirit of service. The runs served as a platform to promote India’s developmental goals, emphasizing unity, cultural pride, and sustainable progress.

The Viksit Bharat Run events underscore the Indian diaspora’s pivotal role in amplifying India’s global presence while fostering local engagement. By blending cultural celebration with environmental and developmental themes, these initiatives reflect India’s multifaceted vision for 2047. The enthusiastic participation across the UK highlights the diaspora’s commitment to carrying forward India’s heritage and contributing to a sustainable, inclusive future, both locally and globally.
