Indian Army Contingent Departs for Cambodia for CINBAX-II Joint Military Exercise
Indian Army joins Cambodia for CINBAX-II exercise focused on counter-terrorism and operational cooperation.
An Indian Army contingent departed for Cambodia on Sunday to participate in the second edition of the bilateral military exercise CINBAX-II, marking a key step in India’s ongoing defence diplomacy and cooperation with friendly foreign nations. The exercise aims to enhance joint operational capabilities, particularly in counter-terrorism scenarios, and strengthen military ties between the two countries.
The joint exercise between the Indian Army and the Royal Cambodian Army will focus on counter-terrorism operations in jungle and semi-urban environments. Officials said the training will be conducted at the company level, with both sides working closely to improve coordination, tactical planning, and execution in sub-conventional warfare situations. The initiative is seen as part of India’s broader efforts to build regional security partnerships.
According to the Indian Army, the contingent comprises 120 personnel, most of whom belong to a battalion of the Maratha Light Infantry Regiment. The Cambodian side will be represented by 160 troops from the Royal Cambodian Army. The exercise will be held at the Techo Sen Phnom Thom Mreas Provincial Royal Cambodian Air Force Training Centre in Kampong Speu Province and will run from May 4 to May 17.

During the exercise, soldiers from both nations will engage in joint drills, exchange operational experiences, and train in modern warfare techniques. Special emphasis will be placed on counter-terrorism tactics, including drone operations, mortar usage, and sniper training. Officials noted that the aim is to improve interoperability and strengthen battlefield coordination in environments similar to those encountered during United Nations peacekeeping missions.
The Ministry of Defence stated that the exercise is aligned with Chapter VIII of the United Nations mandate, reflecting its relevance to global peacekeeping standards. The collaboration is also intended to prepare troops for evolving security challenges, particularly in complex operational environments where coordinated multinational responses are required.
Officials further said that CINBAX-II represents more than just a training exercise, describing it as a reflection of growing strategic trust between India and Cambodia. The initiative is expected to deepen bilateral defence relations, promote the exchange of best practices, and reinforce both nations’ commitment to regional stability and global peace through enhanced military cooperation.
