India Must Unite to End Tuberculosis, Says President Murmu
President Murmu urges united action to eliminate tuberculosis ahead of World TB Day.
President Droupadi Murmu on Monday called for collective action to eliminate tuberculosis, emphasizing the need for renewed resolve among all stakeholders ahead of World TB Day on March 24. In her message, she highlighted the continued public health challenge posed by the disease, which affects millions globally.
Noting India’s progress, President Murmu praised the efforts under the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, a nationwide campaign aimed at eradicating tuberculosis. She pointed out that sustained interventions have contributed to early diagnosis, the provision of free treatment, improved nutritional support, and enhanced patient care, reflecting the effectiveness of the National TB Elimination Programme.
The President emphasized that these achievements are a testament to the country’s commitment to addressing the TB burden. She underscored that consistent, well-coordinated strategies can significantly reduce the disease’s prevalence and improve public health outcomes across India.
