Government To Launch Modified UDAN Scheme In Jodhpur On July 4

Government unveils revamped UDAN scheme to strengthen regional aviation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the new terminal building at Jodhpur Airport on July 4 and launch the Modified UDAN scheme, marking a major push for India’s regional aviation connectivity programme. The initiative is expected to strengthen air connectivity in underserved regions and accelerate infrastructure development across the country.

The UDAN scheme, officially known as the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS-UDAN), aims to improve access to air travel by developing greenfield airports and upgrading existing underutilised airports. The revamped version of the scheme is designed to expand aviation infrastructure and enhance connectivity across remote and emerging economic corridors.

According to official information, the government plans to invest Rs 28,840 crore over the next 10 years under the redesigned aviation expansion programme. A key focus will be the development of around 100 aerodromes from existing unserved airstrips, along with the creation of 200 modern helipads to improve access in remote and difficult terrains. The initiative also includes Rs 2,500 crore in operations and maintenance support to ensure the viability of regional airports in their early years.

The new Jodhpur Airport terminal has been designed with a blend of modern infrastructure and Rajasthani architectural heritage, incorporating traditional elements such as arches and jharokhas. The terminal also targets a 5-star GRIHA green building rating, with features including energy-efficient systems, water conservation measures, and environmentally sustainable construction practices. Officials say the upgraded facility is expected to boost tourism, trade, and employment in the region.

Following the Jodhpur event, the Prime Minister will travel to Balotra in Gujarat, where he is scheduled to dedicate, inaugurate, and lay the foundation stone for development projects worth approximately Rs 1.06 lakh crore. These projects span multiple sectors, including energy, transport, railways, roads, urban development, and power transmission, reflecting a broad infrastructure push across both states.

Among the major announcements is India’s first greenfield integrated refinery-cum-petrochemical complex at Pachpadra in Balotra, developed as a joint venture between Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and the Government of Rajasthan. Built with an investment exceeding Rs 79,450 crore, the 9 million metric tonnes per annum facility is expected to strengthen India’s energy and petrochemical capacity.

The Prime Minister is also set to inaugurate the CG Semi Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Sanand, Gujarat. Developed under the India Semiconductor Mission with an investment of over Rs 7,500 crore, the facility marks a key step in advancing India’s domestic semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem and strengthening its position in the global electronics supply chain.
