Gandhi’s Philosophy Can Heal a Divided World, Says Goa Governor on Gandhi Jayanti

Goa Governor urges revival of Gandhi’s values to heal a divided world on Gandhi Jayanti 2025.

As the world commemorated Gandhi Jayanti, also recognized globally as the International Day of Non-Violence, Goa Governor P Ashok Gajapathi Raju delivered a powerful message emphasizing Mahatma Gandhi’s enduring philosophy. Speaking from Panaji, the governor highlighted how Gandhi’s principles of truth, peace, and non-violence offer a beacon of hope amid rising global challenges such as intolerance, division, and conflict. He urged humanity to embrace dialogue, understanding, and respect for diversity to resolve differences and foster unity, drawing inspiration from Gandhi’s life and teachings.

Gandhi’s legacy, as the governor noted, is rooted in the belief that true courage stems not from aggression but from unwavering commitment to justice with patience and moral fortitude. Raju underscored that Gandhi demonstrated profound societal change is achievable without resorting to hatred or violence, relying instead on love, compassion, and truth. “His legacy reminds us that peace is not weakness but the highest form of strength,” Raju stated, emphasizing that these principles remain vital in addressing contemporary global crises, from ideological conflicts to social polarization.

The governor also highlighted Gandhi’s vision of inclusive development, which prioritizes the welfare of the most vulnerable. For Gandhi, national progress was not merely economic but measured by the upliftment of society’s weakest members. Raju connected this vision to modern aspirations for equitable and sustainable growth, noting its relevance in today’s world where economic disparities and social injustices persist. This perspective aligns with Gandhi’s advocacy for self-reliance and community-driven progress, concepts that continue to inspire movements for social justice globally.
