A major fire broke out at a coaching centre in the Aliganj area of Lucknow on Monday, leaving at least four people feared dead and several others injured, while rescue operations continued late into the day. The incident triggered panic as students and staff attempted to escape the rapidly spreading blaze from the multi-storey commercial building.
The fire reportedly originated inside a building that housed a coaching centre, a pet shop, and a gaming zone, among other establishments. According to eyewitness accounts cited by PTI, more than 10 to 20 students were believed to be trapped inside at the peak of the incident, raising concerns over the scale of casualties.
As flames engulfed the structure, several students were seen jumping from the first floor in an attempt to escape. Eyewitness videos circulating from the site showed chaotic scenes, including individuals climbing out of broken windows and others losing balance while attempting to descend from ledges. Some were reportedly injured after falling onto nearby structures before being assisted by bystanders.

Emergency response teams, including the fire brigade, police, and district administration officials, were deployed immediately to the site. Rescue operations were carried out to evacuate those trapped inside, with authorities confirming that five to six individuals had been rescued so far. Efforts to ensure no one remained inside the building continued as firefighters worked to control the blaze.
Officials also stated that senior district authorities were monitoring the situation closely, with instructions issued for rapid evacuation and urgent medical assistance for the injured. Emergency services were placed on high alert as teams coordinated efforts to prevent further casualties and contain the spread of the fire.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials to expedite rescue and relief operations and ensure proper treatment for the injured. He also expressed concern over the incident and instructed authorities to remain on the ground until all necessary safety and rescue measures were completed.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are expected to follow once rescue operations conclude, while authorities continue to assess damage and verify the number of casualties and survivors from the affected building.
