Flights Gradually Resume At Dubai Airport After Drone Incident Prompts Temporary Suspension

Flights resume at Dubai International Airport after drone incident and UAE intercepts Iranian threats.

Flights at Dubai International Airport began gradually resuming on Monday after a temporary suspension triggered by a drone-related incident that caused a fuel tank fire near the airport, airport authorities said. Airport operator Dubai Airports confirmed that departures and arrivals had been briefly halted as a precaution following the incident.

In a statement posted on the social media platform X, the operator said flights to and from the airport, also known as DXB, were “gradually resuming to selected destinations” as authorities worked to restore normal operations. The disruption came amid heightened regional tensions after the UAE Ministry of Defence said the country’s air defence systems were intercepting incoming missiles and drones launched from Iran.

In a separate statement, the ministry said defence forces were actively responding to aerial threats targeting the Gulf nation. Officials did not immediately confirm whether the drone incident that caused the nearby fuel tank fire was directly linked to the reported Iranian missile and drone activity. However, the events occurred against the backdrop of escalating security concerns across the Gulf region.

Dubai International Airport has long been one of the world’s busiest hubs for international passenger traffic, connecting hundreds of global destinations. Even brief disruptions can affect thousands of travellers and airline schedules across continents.

Authorities in the United Arab Emirates said precautionary measures were implemented to ensure passenger safety while emergency and security teams responded to the situation. Airport officials advised travellers to check with airlines for updated flight information as operations continued to stabilise.
