Fake ₹500 Notes Flood Nagpur! Bengal Duo Nabbed

Cops seize ₹1.21 lakh in fakes near city hospital.

Nagpur police have arrested two men from West Bengal for carrying a stash of fake ₹500 currency notes with a total face value of over ₹1.21 lakh. The suspects, Jaminarul Hussain Lokman Sheikh (27) and Azimtanu Sheikh (29), both hailing from Malda district, were caught red-handed on Wednesday night near a hospital in the Tehsil area, sending shockwaves through the city.

Initially posing as job-seekers, the duo's story unraveled quickly when police found 243 counterfeit ₹500 notes hidden inside a plastic bag during a routine check. The suspicious behavior of the two prompted a search, revealing the hidden fake currency, prompting their immediate arrest. Officers said the notes were likely intended for circulation in local markets.

During questioning, the men claimed they had stolen a passenger’s bag while traveling on the Geetanjali Express from Howrah to Nagpur. The bag, according to them, contained the counterfeit cash. Their plan was to distribute the fake notes in Nagpur and quietly return to West Bengal.
