Egypt Reports Drone Strike On Ships At Mediterranean Port Amid Regional Conflict

Drone incident adds to regional security concerns.

Egypt has confirmed that a drone strike targeted two ships at the Mediterranean port of Damietta, as attacks on energy-related infrastructure continue to raise concerns across the wider West Asia region. The incident occurred on Wednesday, with authorities stating that the attack caused fires on vessels linked to energy operations at the port.

According to Egypt’s state-owned Middle East News Agency, an initial investigation found that the fires were triggered by a drone attack on the two ships. Egyptian authorities have not yet identified any group or party responsible for the strike, and further investigations are underway to determine the source of the attack.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said the flames broke out on a storage vessel and a regasification ship at the port. Officials said emergency response measures were immediately activated, with firefighting and safety teams working in coordination with relevant authorities to control the situation.

The attack comes amid growing tensions in West Asia, where strikes targeting energy infrastructure and maritime facilities have increased concerns over regional security and the stability of fuel supply routes. Egypt’s Mediterranean ports play a significant role in the country’s energy operations and regional trade activities.

Officials are continuing to monitor the situation at Damietta port while assessing the security implications of the drone strike. The incident adds to broader concerns over the vulnerability of critical energy facilities amid escalating conflicts and geopolitical tensions in the region.
