D.K. Shivakumar Says Prayed at Tirumala Temple For Economic Stability And Good Rainfall

D.K. Shivakumar visited Tirumala temple and prayed for India’s economic stability and good rainfall.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Tuesday visited the Tirumala temple in the early hours of the morning and offered prayers at the shrine of Lord Venkateswara. He said his visit was spiritually significant and personally meaningful, as he prayed for India to overcome economic challenges and for Karnataka to receive adequate rainfall. The temple visit drew attention due to its timing amid ongoing political discussions in the state Congress leadership.

Shivakumar, who also serves as the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, arrived in Tirumala on Monday evening along with his wife Usha and stayed overnight at the hill town before the darshan. He visited the temple around 3 a.m. and participated in the customary rituals before offering his prayers. After completing his visit, he travelled to Tumakuru to attend a government programme marking the completion of three years of the Karnataka administration.

Speaking to mediapersons after his darshan, Shivakumar said he prayed for peace, prosperity, and good health for people across India. He added that his prayers were focused on ensuring that the country remains stable and capable of addressing economic pressures in a balanced and effective manner. He also expressed hope that citizens would receive relief from difficulties through good governance and favourable conditions.

The Deputy Chief Minister further emphasised his concern over agricultural needs in Karnataka, particularly rainfall, which plays a crucial role in the state’s farming-dependent economy. He said he specifically sought divine blessings for timely and sufficient monsoon rains, which would help farmers and rural communities. His remarks came during a period of public outreach events and governance reviews by the state administration.

Shivakumar’s visit has also gained political significance due to ongoing discussions within the Karnataka Congress regarding leadership balance in the state government. He is considered a strong contender for the Chief Minister’s post and has recently indicated that he and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah may be called to Delhi for consultations. The visit to Tirumala is being seen in political circles alongside these internal party dynamics.

He also praised the functioning of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), noting improvements in cleanliness, crowd management, and overall administration at the temple complex. Shivakumar said he was pleased with the changes implemented since his last visit several years ago. He extended appreciation to the temple authorities and officials for maintaining discipline and ensuring a smooth experience for devotees visiting one of India’s most significant pilgrimage centres.
