DK Shivakumar Retains BDA, BMRDA As Karnataka Government Allocates Portfolios
Shivakumar retains BDA and BMRDA after Karnataka portfolio allocation.
The Karnataka government on Wednesday allocated portfolios to newly inducted ministers and reshuffled responsibilities among several senior ministers, a day before the state Assembly’s Monsoon Session. The portfolio allocation was approved by Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot after the list was forwarded by R. Prabhu Shankar, Special Secretary to the Governor, to Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh.
Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has retained several key departments, including Finance, Cabinet Affairs, the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms, Intelligence, Information, Law, Justice and Human Rights, Parliamentary Affairs and Legislation, and Agriculture Marketing. He will also continue to oversee the Commissionerate of Town and Country Planning, urban local bodies under the Bengaluru Development Authority and Bengaluru Metropolitan Region Development Authority, as well as all portfolios that remain unallocated.
The decision comes after Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda had pressed for control of the BDA and BMRDA portfolios. Ramalinga Reddy, who had resisted taking charge of Water Resources while seeking Bengaluru Development, has instead been assigned Forest, Ecology and Environment. Reddy had also submitted his resignation to the Chief Minister during the dispute over portfolio allocation.
