Delhi’s Luxury SUV Theft Ring Smashed: Crores in Stolen Vehicles Recovered!
Delhi Police bust SUV theft gang, recover vehicles worth over Rs 1 crore in multi-state raids.
Delhi Police have dismantled a sophisticated syndicate involved in stealing high-end SUVs and selling them across multiple states, recovering vehicles valued at over Rs 1 crore, authorities announced on Saturday. Two key suspects, Ashraf Sultan and Irshad alias Baba, were arrested in connection with the operation, which targeted luxury vehicles for their lucrative resale value.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Abhishek Dhania, the gang employed master keys to access vehicles and affixed fake registration plates to evade detection. The stolen SUVs were transported to states including Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Kolkata, where they were sold in under-regulated second-hand markets. Irshad operated a garage in Bilaspur that served as a hub for storing, dismantling, and modifying the stolen vehicles.
The breakthrough came after specific intelligence led to Ashraf’s arrest near Nala Road in Ghazipur. Police apprehended him with a loaded pistol and a vehicle lacking ownership documents, later confirmed as stolen. A fresh case under the Arms Act was registered at Ghazipur Police Station. Interrogation revealed Ashraf’s role in an organized network, prompting raids across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. Authorities recovered five stolen SUVs, a pistol, multiple master keys, fake number plates, and a dismantled car engine.

Further investigation led to a raid on Irshad’s Bilaspur garage, where police seized an SUV and a car engine stolen from Hauz Khas and Vivek Vihar. Additional raids in Noor Nagar Colony, Murad Nagar, Ghaziabad, yielded two more SUVs linked to thefts in Pandav Nagar and Mandawali.
Ashraf, a habitual offender with 16 prior criminal cases, including vehicle thefts and Arms Act violations, and Irshad, previously linked to receiving stolen property and evidence tampering, are believed to be part of a larger network. Police have identified additional suspects—Sakir alias Gaddu, Ujair, and Rashid alias Kala—and are actively pursuing them.
The operation underscores Delhi Police’s commitment to tackling organized crime, with ongoing efforts to dismantle the remaining elements of this interstate vehicle theft syndicate.
