Delhi Woman Learns Of Sister’s Death Minutes After Distress SOS Message
Delhi woman receives sister’s death news minutes after emotional SOS plea.
A 28-year-old woman, Veena Kumari, died under suspicious circumstances in West Delhi’s Inderpuri area after allegedly calling her sister for help just minutes before her death, prompting police to register a dowry death case and arrest two family members, officials said.
According to police, Veena had contacted her sister around 9:55 pm on May 18, pleading for help and alleging that she was being assaulted at her matrimonial home. In the emotional call, she reportedly said she was being beaten and feared for her life, before the call abruptly disconnected. Seven minutes later, at 10:02 pm, her family received information that she had fallen from the terrace of a three-storey building.
Veena’s husband, Raju Singh, claimed that she died after falling from the roof, while her family has alleged that she was subjected to prolonged dowry harassment and physical violence. Her brother stated that there had been repeated disputes within the marriage, including alleged demands for additional dowry, including a Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycle, claims which the in-laws have denied.

The family further alleged that Veena faced ongoing abuse during her three-year marriage, which began in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal before the couple moved to Delhi in 2023. Her brother also claimed that she had previously been physically assaulted and that her eardrum was ruptured during one such incident. The couple has a six-month-old child, and according to the family, Veena had asked her sister to take care of the infant during the distress call.
Police confirmed that a PCR call was received reporting a fall from a building, after which Veena was taken to a nearby hospital and declared dead. Following a post-mortem examination at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, the body was handed over to the family. A case of dowry death has been registered, and both the husband and his brother have been arrested as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding her death.
