Delhi Court Rejects Allegation On Sonia Gandhi’s Voter List Entry

Delhi court rejects plea on Sonia Gandhi’s early voter registration.

A Delhi court has rejected a plea seeking action against Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi over claims that her name was included in the electoral rolls three years before she acquired Indian citizenship. The petition, which accused Gandhi of forging documents to secure her place on the voters’ list, was dismissed by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Vaibhav Chaurasiya on September 10, 2025, following a hearing where the court raised queries for the complainant’s counsel.

The petitioner’s counsel argued that Gandhi’s inclusion in the electoral roll during 1980-81 was irregular, asserting that she was not an Indian citizen at the time. However, after reviewing the arguments, the court found insufficient grounds to proceed with the allegations. The decision, reserved on Wednesday, marks the closure of a case that sought to challenge the legitimacy of Gandhi’s voter registration prior to her naturalization as an Indian citizen.

This ruling underscores the judiciary’s role in addressing claims against prominent figures, ensuring that allegations are substantiated before action is taken, while dismissing those lacking merit.
