Decomposed Body Of Missing Polling Official Found In Assam’s Karbi Anglong District

The decomposed body of a missing polling official has been recovered in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district, bringing a tragic end to a multi-day search operation, officials said on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Cornelius Kindu, who was serving as the third officer at polling station number 19 at Sarpo Kathar LP School.

According to officials, Kindu had been reported missing since April 9 after he left his assigned polling duty, stating that he was feeling unwell while voting-related duties were still underway in the region. When he failed to return to his residence in Diphu, authorities initiated a search operation.

The body was discovered in the Rongwongwey area by local residents, who immediately alerted police and administrative authorities. The region’s difficult terrain and dense forest cover had made the search challenging over the past several days, officials said.

Following his disappearance, search teams deployed multiple resources, including drones, to scan the hilly and forested landscape in an effort to locate the missing official. Despite these efforts, no trace of him was found until the body was recovered on Saturday.

Authorities have stated that the exact cause of death has not yet been determined and that a detailed investigation is underway. Post-mortem examination and further forensic analysis are expected to provide clarity on the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The case has raised concern among local officials due to the timing of the disappearance during election-related duties. However, investigators have not yet indicated any suspected foul play and are exploring all possible angles.
