‘Dead’ Thai Woman Found Alive After Knocking Inside Coffin at Temple

Thai family stunned as “corpse” suddenly revives before cremation.

In a spine-chilling scene straight out of a horror movie, temple workers in Nonthaburi province near Bangkok froze in terror when a “dead” 65-year-old woman suddenly started moving and knocking from inside her coffin. The dramatic incident unfolded on Sunday at Wat Rat Prakhong Tham temple when a pickup truck arrived carrying what everyone believed was a lifeless body ready for cremation. A viral video posted by the temple itself captured the exact moment staff realised the woman was very much alive.

The woman’s brother had driven nearly 500 kilometres from Phitsanulok province, convinced his sister had passed away two days earlier. For almost two years she had been completely bedridden, and when she suddenly stopped breathing he sealed her in a coffin and began the long journey south. His plan was to honour her earlier wish to donate her organs at a major Bangkok hospital, but staff there turned him away because he had no official death certificate.

Rejected by the hospital, the grieving brother then headed to the Buddhist temple which offers free cremations to the poor. Temple manager Pairat Soodthoop was in the middle of explaining the paperwork requirements when a faint but unmistakable knocking sound came from inside the closed coffin. “Everyone went silent, then we heard it again,” Pairat recounted. “I told them to open it immediately, and there she was, eyes half-open, arms moving, desperately trying to get out.”

Shocked monks and volunteers quickly lifted the frail woman out and rushed her to the nearest hospital where doctors confirmed she had slipped into a deep coma-like state, possibly due to severe dehydration and low oxygen levels. Her vital signs were weak but undeniably present. The temple’s abbot immediately announced that the monastery would cover all her medical bills, calling the revival “a miracle of Lord Buddha’s compassion.”

As the revived woman now fights for recovery in intensive care, the bizarre case has exploded across Thai social media, with thousands calling it the ultimate real-life “wake-up call.” Doctors warn that premature declarations of death are rare but do happen, especially in remote areas with limited medical access. For one family, what began as final goodbyes has miraculously turned into a second chance at life.
