The appointment places an experienced organisational leader at the helm of the Tamil Nadu Congress ahead of future political challenges in the state. As the new TNPCC president, Tagore is expected to focus on strengthening the party's grassroots organisation, coordinating with alliance partners and expanding the Congress' presence in Tamil Nadu.

The Congress leadership has been making organisational changes across several states as part of its efforts to reinforce the party structure ahead of upcoming electoral contests. Tagore's elevation is seen as part of this broader strategy, with the party expressing confidence in his experience both as a parliamentarian and as an organisational leader.
