CM Dhami Encourages Uttarakhand Students To Develop Skills For Technology-Driven Careers

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday urged students at Doon University to prepare for a technology-driven job market, highlighting the need to develop skills aligned with emerging technologies. During an interaction with students, Dhami discussed employment, reverse migration, higher education, artificial intelligence and urban infrastructure, while outlining initiatives aimed at expanding opportunities for young people within the state.

On employment and reverse migration, Dhami said the trend was gaining momentum as the government worked to create more avenues for employment and self-employment. He referred to schemes including the Mukhyamantri Udyamshala Yojana, Mukhyamantri Swarozgar Yojana and Solar Self-Employment Scheme, along with policies supporting tourism, industry and filmmaking. He also highlighted efforts to strengthen self-help groups and expand livelihood opportunities for families and young people within Uttarakhand.

Dhami said higher education was another area receiving attention, with efforts underway to modernise institutions and improve infrastructure. He also noted that Dehradun was developing the country’s fifth Science City, which is expected to provide opportunities linked to science, research and innovation. The Chief Minister said strengthening educational infrastructure would help young people gain access to better opportunities while contributing to the state’s development.

Addressing questions about artificial intelligence and automation, Dhami acknowledged that technological advances were changing the nature of employment while also creating new opportunities. He urged students to continuously develop their skills in line with technological changes and become prepared for emerging career requirements. He said the government was working to connect young people with modern skills and technologies to help them adapt to an evolving job market.

The Chief Minister also discussed Dehradun’s traffic congestion and the government’s plans for long-term infrastructure solutions. He referred to proposed elevated roads over the Bindal and Rispana rivers, saying the projects would help improve traffic movement across the city and address recurring congestion once completed. The government is considering such infrastructure measures as part of efforts to manage the city’s growing transportation needs.

The interaction covered employment, local livelihoods, higher education, technology and urban infrastructure, with Dhami stressing the role of young people in Uttarakhand’s future. He encouraged students to focus on innovation, skill development and entrepreneurship while taking advantage of emerging opportunities. The government, he said, would continue working to expand employment options and create conditions that enable young people and families to build sustainable livelihoods within the state.
