Bomb Threats to TN Ministers’ Homes Declared Hoax After Intense Police Search

Fake email sparks Tiruchy panic, searches.

Early Wednesday, an anonymous email landed in the Tiruchy City Police Commissioner’s inbox, boldly claiming bombs were planted at Tamil Nadu Ministers K N Nehru’s Thillai Nagar residence and Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi’s Anna Nagar home. Both ministers were traveling out of station, but the threat triggered an immediate lockdown-style response from law enforcement. Bomb detection and disposal squads rushed to the scenes by 8:30 a.m., turning quiet residential streets into high-security zones as neighbors watched in alarm.

Police cordoned off both properties and deployed sniffer dogs, metal detectors, and advanced explosive trace equipment. Officers meticulously combed through cars, kitchens, gardens, and even rooftops, leaving no corner unchecked. After hours of tense searching under the morning sun, authorities breathed a sigh of relief—no explosives, no wires, no danger. The threat was officially declared a hoax.

A senior officer confirmed the all-clear, stating the operation was thorough and professional. “It was a false alarm, but we treat every threat seriously,” he said. With public safety secured, focus swiftly shifted to the digital trail—cybercrime experts are now hunting the sender’s IP address, email origin, and possible motives behind the malicious prank.

In a related development, St. Joseph’s College in Tiruchy received a separate bomb threat via email, prompting parallel searches on campus. Though unconnected to the ministers’ case, the dual alerts have heightened vigilance across the city. Police urge institutions and citizens to report suspicious communications immediately.

As investigations continue, the incident serves as a stark reminder of how hoax threats can disrupt lives and drain resources. Authorities vow to track down the culprit and ensure such fear-mongering faces strict consequences under cyber and anti-terror laws.
