BJP Demands CBI Probe Into Sabarimala Gold Case And Withdrawal Of Cases Against Devotees

BJP seeks CBI investigation and relief for devotees in Sabarimala case.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kerala has intensified its campaign over issues linked to the Sabarimala shrine, with state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into alleged irregularities involving missing gold from the temple. In a letter addressed to Kerala Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan, he also called for the unconditional withdrawal of cases filed against Ayyappa devotees during earlier protests related to the Sabarimala agitation.

The BJP leader said the issues surrounding the hill shrine were of deep emotional and religious significance to millions of devotees in Kerala and across the world. He argued that the alleged disappearance of gold from the temple and subsequent controversies had raised serious concerns about the management and security of temple assets, requiring a transparent and independent investigation.

According to Chandrasekhar, reports that emerged in 2025 regarding the alleged loss of gold from the shrine further intensified public concern. He said the developments had added to long-standing sensitivities linked to the Sabarimala issue, which has remained a major point of social and political debate in Kerala since 2018.

The BJP leader also reiterated that his party had consistently raised these concerns over the years, including during the tenure of the previous state government. He urged the current administration to take what he described as fair and decisive action to restore confidence among devotees and ensure accountability in the handling of temple-related matters.

In his letter, Chandrasekhar made two key demands: a recommendation for a CBI investigation into all allegations concerning the alleged missing gold, and the withdrawal of all criminal cases registered against devotees who participated in protests defending traditional practices at the shrine. He said such steps were necessary to protect the faith, rights, and customs associated with the temple.

Warning of possible political consequences, he stated that if the government failed to act, the BJP would launch a statewide peaceful agitation in support of Ayyappa devotees. The party said its demand was aimed at ensuring justice, transparency, and the protection of religious sentiments while maintaining social harmony in the state.
