Bihar Government Removes 3,000+ Fake Teachers, Begins Process To Recover Salaries

Bihar removes alleged fake teachers, seeks salary recovery with interest.

The Bihar Education Department has dismissed 3,035 government school teachers who were allegedly appointed using forged documents and has initiated steps to recover nearly Rs 1,400 crore in salaries paid to them along with interest. The action follows a long-running investigation into alleged irregularities in teacher recruitment carried out through local bodies between 2006 and 2015.

The matter came to light after the Patna High Court directed the Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) to investigate suspected fraudulent appointments. During the probe, officials allegedly found that several teachers had secured government jobs by submitting fake caste certificates, Aadhaar details, age records, disability certificates and educational documents.

Investigators also reportedly found cases involving forged CTET and TET certificates, along with degrees allegedly issued by certain universities and colleges. The Education Department said the verification process uncovered widespread irregularities and that action would be taken against individuals found responsible after completion of investigations.

Bihar Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari said the dismissal of the teachers was the beginning of a broader crackdown against recruitment fraud. He said the Vigilance Investigation Bureau had completed investigations in several cases and found that more than 3,000 teachers had allegedly obtained appointments through fraudulent means.

The minister said the department had directed officials to take strict action and ensure that such incidents are not repeated in future. He added that all upcoming teacher recruitments would include mandatory verification of candidates’ certificates before appointments are finalised.

Tiwari said investigations into other cases were still underway and that action would be taken against anyone found guilty. Reiterating the government’s position, he said the Education Department would follow a zero-tolerance approach towards forgery and corruption, with further decisions on salary recovery to be announced after the process is finalised.
