Bastar’s Digital Healthcare Drive Improves Lives
Tribal region leads Chhattisgarh in digital medical services.
Chhattisgarh’s Bastar division, a tribal-dominated region, is undergoing a remarkable transformation in healthcare, setting a new standard for digital medical services in the state. Under Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai’s leadership, the effective rollout of the Next Gen e-Hospital system, Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, and Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana has revolutionized healthcare delivery across Bastar’s seven districts: Bastar, Kanker, Kondgaon, Narayanpur, Bijapur, Dantewada, and Sukma. These initiatives are streamlining patient care and bringing cutting-edge technology to remote areas, officials announced on Monday.
The Next Gen e-Hospital system is operational in six district hospitals, two civil hospitals, and 41 community health centres, integrating OPD registration, consultations, diagnostics, and medicine distribution into a single digital platform. This has significantly enhanced transparency, efficiency, and patient satisfaction. The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission has further bolstered the system by completing Health Facility Registration (HFR) for hospitals and Health Professional Registration (HPR) for medical staff. Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) kiosks allow patients to create digital health accounts, while the “Scan & Share” feature and ABHA ID-based online OPD registration eliminate long queues, ensuring faster access to services.
The impact is evident: Bastar District Hospital recorded 60,045 OPD registrations from May to July 2025, with 32,379 (53%) linked to ABHA. Similarly, Dantewada District Hospital reported 33,895 registrations, with 13,729 (40%) tied to ABHA. These digital records enable patients to access their health information nationwide, improving treatment continuity and quality. Chief Minister Sai emphasized that these advancements ensure timely, accessible, and high-quality care, positioning Bastar as a model for the state. “We aim to replicate this across Chhattisgarh to build a healthy and empowered state,” he said.

State Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal highlighted that these digital services bridge the gap between rural communities and quality healthcare. “This is more than digitization—it’s a lifeline for remote areas,” he noted. The success in Bastar, driven by technology, administrative commitment, and public participation, underscores its potential to transform healthcare statewide and contribute to a ‘Healthy India.’ Plans are underway to expand these initiatives to all districts, promising a brighter, healthier future for Chhattisgarh’s residents.
