Ashneer Grover Responds to Backlash Over Madhuri Grover's Comments on Kids
Ashneer Grover's sarcastic reply to a Rs 900 crore demand goes viral.
Entrepreneur and former Shark Tank India judge Ashneer Grover has responded to a social media user who asked him to donate his reported Rs 900 crore wealth following controversial remarks made by his wife, Madhuri Grover, about family planning. The exchange emerged amid growing online criticism of Madhuri’s comments suggesting that wealthy families having more children could contribute to prosperity, while larger families among economically weaker sections could deepen poverty.
The controversy began after Madhuri, currently appearing as a contestant on Lock Upp 2, spoke about her personal experience while trying to avoid elimination. She revealed that she and Ashneer had once planned to have a third child but were unable to do so. During the discussion, she argued that the traditional two-child family planning concept should not apply universally and pointed to wealthy families with three children while explaining her position.
Her remarks triggered widespread criticism on social media, with several users describing them as elitist, insensitive and disconnected from the realities faced by poorer families. Amid the debate, content creator Nalini Unagar tagged Ashneer on X and challenged him to donate his reported Rs 900 crore wealth. She suggested distributing Rs 50 lakh each to 1,800 families so they could financially support and raise their children.

Unagar further questioned why Ashneer should keep such a large fortune for only two children if he believed poverty was connected to economically weaker families having more children. She sarcastically suggested that he could solve poverty by giving away his wealth before moving to the Himalayas and becoming a monk. Ashneer responded with a sarcastic post, describing the request as a casual way of seeking charity and adding that his wife had already offered her views on the issue.
The exchange quickly went viral and generated divided reactions online. Some users praised Ashneer’s characteristic blunt response and argued that the demand for him to give away his wealth did not directly address the debate over family planning and economic stability. Others criticised his reply and said it dismissed concerns about the implications of Madhuri’s remarks and the broader social realities surrounding poverty.
Several users also defended Madhuri, arguing that financial stability is an important consideration when deciding the size of a family. Others maintained that the issue of poverty is far more complex and cannot be reduced solely to the number of children in a household. The controversy has continued to fuel debate over wealth, parenthood and economic responsibility, with both Madhuri’s original comments and Ashneer’s response drawing strong reactions.
