Amritsar Police Bust Cross-Border Narcotics And Firearms Racket, 10 Held
Heroin, foreign pistols seized as police probe Pakistan-linked smuggling network.
Punjab Police has busted two organised cross-border drug and illegal arms smuggling modules, arresting 10 individuals in a coordinated crackdown, a senior official said on Saturday. The operation was carried out by the Amritsar Commissionerate Police as part of ongoing efforts to curb narcotics trafficking and illegal weapons flow into the state.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigations indicate that the accused were in contact with Pakistan-based smugglers through social media platforms. The suspects allegedly facilitated the smuggling of heroin and sophisticated firearms into Indian territory, which were then distributed across various districts through a well-organised network.
According to police, officers recovered 5.438 kilograms of heroin during the operation, along with three sophisticated pistols — a Glock 9mm, a Zigana 9mm, and a .32 bore handgun — as well as 34 live cartridges. Authorities also seized Rs 4,500 believed to be proceeds from drug sales. The seizures highlight what officials described as a growing nexus between cross-border narcotics trafficking and illegal arms supply.

Multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and the Arms Act. Police said the accused are being interrogated to uncover both forward and backward linkages in the smuggling chain, including handlers and financiers operating across the border.
Punjab, which shares a sensitive international boundary with Pakistan, has long grappled with the challenge of drug trafficking and illegal arms inflow. Security agencies have intensified surveillance and intelligence-based operations in recent years to dismantle such networks. Officials said further investigation is underway to identify additional accomplices and ensure the complete disruption of the smuggling modules.
